A Freddie for Frederick
Enforme Interactive Receives National Award

Frederick, MD– Enforme Interactive, a digital media company based in Frederick, Maryland, has received the 2003 Freddie for Men's Health, awarded by International Health & Medical Media Awards. The entry, Prostate Cancer: Your Decision Notebook, was developed in cooperation with HealthMark Multimedia, a Washington firm specializing in interactive patient education materials.

The Freddies, sponsored by MediMedia, are awarded annually in 35 categories to honor excellence in health and medical media, including film, videos, and new media. This year's recipients were formally recognized an event recently held in Los Angeles, California. In attendance were Enforme founders Carrie and Eric Delente, as well as Dr. Susan Brink and Ann McFarren, principals of Healthmark. Afterwards, Enforme president Carrie Delente commented, "The ceremony was incredibly inspirational. It was obvious that everybody there cared, and that they wanted to help patients take responsibility for their own treatment and well-being." Prostate Cancer was one of only a handful of multimedia presentations honored at the event. Recipients in other categories included Discovery Health and a transplant team headed by the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer affecting US males (after skin cancer.) About 240,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, and each year over 30,000 men die from the disease. Fortunately, prostate cancer can usually be treated successfully if it is detected in its early stages. Regular health check-ups include basic tests for early signs of prostate cancer, and many authorities recommend a specific test, called a PSA test, for men over 50 or in certain high-risk groups. Prostate cancer patients have an important say in what type of treatment is best for them. In order to help recently-diagnosed patients understand their disease and their options, HealthMark Multimedia designed Prostate Cancer: Your Decision Notebook, and teamed with Enforme Interactive to produce the final CD-ROM, which includes numerous diagrams, illustrations, and video testimonials from prostate cancer survivors.
