    Sitemap Manager Overview

First, open the Universal Navigation and select Sitemap.

    Properties Tab

The webpage Properties tab contains the basic elements of a webpage’s behavior when viewed by users. All updates made to a page’s Properties can take up to one minute to display on the page itself and will require a manual refresh on the page before changes are visible.

Name of Field (* = required field) Type of Data Description of Data
Page Name* Plaintext Webpage name/title that appears in the Sitemap.  Will also appear as the browser tab name unless the Advanced properties are updated.
    URL Plaintext

Automatically generated slug for each page based on the Page Name. This will appear as the base URL name for each child page (e.g. www.apprende.com/Default.aspx, where “/Default.aspx” is the URL listed in the page properties.

“Use a manual URL instead” allows admin to create a unique slug for the page’s URL.

“Use an automatic URL instead” reverts the manual URL with the automatic URL generated based on the Page Name.

Page Type* Option Buttons Ability to select the page behavior if a user attempts to access this URL
Navigation* Dropdown List Determines if the page will appear in the navigation lists featured on a site
Published Checkbox On check, allows non-administrators visibility to the page (if a page is unpublished, users will be unable to view the page until an admin publishes)

    Page Type

Three options are available to define the page type

    • Template - the default selection, this option applies to most pages. A dropdown list contains all available page templates to organize content on a webpage, though those listed as (Responsive) are recommended to ensure all webparts function properly.
      • Simple Page with no header or footer (Responsive)
      • Flex Column (Responsive)
      • One Column (Responsive)
      • One Column page with two column header (Responsive)
      • Two Columns with left sidebar (Responsive)
      • Two Columns with left sidebar and split header (Responsive)
      • Two Columns with right sidebar (Responsive)
      • Two Columns with right sidebar and split header (Responsive)
      • Three Columns with left and right sidebars (Responsive)
    • Transfer - when a user attempts to access this URL, they will instead be transferred to a manually-selected URL within the website.  The transfer URL must be formatted as “/InternalPage/InternalPage” using the URL of that page’s “URL” field.
    • Existing Page - used to override a hard coded webpage built by developers that does not appear within the Sitemap tree.  For example, some sites may have custom error pages built into the code of the website.  If the “URL” field is updated to the existing page’s URL, this allows the page to be visible and customized through the Sitemap.

Detailed information and visual representations of each template are available in the Webpart Training Document.

The Navigation dropdown list contains four options to customize if a link to that page will appear in any navigation menus:

Most websites contain a navigation menu within the header, which is referred to as the “Top Navigation” Any pages that are set to show in the top navigation will appear as primary links, and any “child” pages that are also set to appear in the top navigation will display as illustrated below. “Left Navigation” links will appear only on pages that feature the “NavZone” in the template, and whose child pages are set to appear in the left navigation.

    Advanced Tab

The advanced properties tab contains more in-depth behavioral settings for each webpage.

Name of Field (* = required field) Type of Data Description of Data
Display Title Plaintext Browser tab display name, overrides Page Name field if data is entered here
Metadata Description Plaintext Overrides the portal’s metatag description for an individual page
Megamenu Description Option Buttons Displays a brief description if displayed within a navigation menu
Link Target Dropdown List When user clicks a link to this page, this option indicates how the page will open within a browser.  Currently all options open links in the same browser window/tab.
Page Tag Plaintext Used to define a detail page’s tag; used in Webpart Properties
CSS Class Plaintext Apply an existing style class to the webpage
Prevent web crawlers from indexing this page Checkbox Checking this box disallows web crawlers (search engines) from indexing this webpage.  Useful for listing pages.
Hide in SEO sitemap Checkbox Checking this box disallows web crawlers from indexing this page while searching through the “sitemap.xml” file.  Useful for eliminating unimportant or redundant pages from crawlers.

The “Brand” dropdown list dictates the specific CSS style assigned to a webpage. This list always includes:

    • Inherit (style from parent page)
    • Default
    • AdminTheme
    • Site's specific/default style theme

If new styles have been designed at any point, those options will appear within the dropdown list in addition to these options.

Mega-menus are displayed as dropdown menus of navigation links. When used within a top navigation menu, and depending upon the pages’ individual settings, they will appear as such:

The Mega-Menu options within the Advanced tab include the following options:

    • Megamenu Description (within the Advanced Properties section)
      • Displays a brief description beneath a page’s title within a megamenu
      • Above, this includes “Display a carousel of image-based content”, “Display a collection of images”, and “Images resize based on screen size”
    • Show Mega-Menu HTML
      • Dropdown list that displays selected HTML content within a parent page’s mega-menu navigation
      • Options include: None, Left, or Right
      • Above, the selected HTML Snippet SmartDoc is shown on the left, which includes an image display
    • Mega-Menu HTML
      • SmartDoc picker that allows administrators to select a premade HTML Snippet or HTML Code Snippet SmartDoc to be included in the megamenu display

    Detail for Content

This section of the Advanced tab contains the controls for what are known as Content Detail pages. A parent page will typically be considered the Content Listing page, where various pieces of content are displayed as links for users to select when they wish to view that particular content. A Content Detail page is the page where that specific content will then be visible in full.

The dropdown list “Add a SmartDoc Type or Course Category” will display all available SmartDoc options, including custom SmartDocs. Clicking the “Add” button will attribute all SmartDocs links clicked from a Content Listing page to open on this particular Content Detail page. Multiple SmartDoc types can be added to a single page, but once added to a page’s Detail for Content list, that same SmartDoc type will not be available to be added to any other page.

The “This is a content detail page” checkbox advises the system that when this page is accessed by users or administrators, that it will be suffixed with a unique content permalink, and is therefore not visible by the permalink defined in the Properties tab.
